  2. Q: The West Shore is always sunny, right?
    A: The West Shore is an extremely sunny area, boasting over 2,000 hours of sunshine each year, spread over all four seasons. Being a west coast community, we get enough rainfall to balance the heat, making for lush valleys, agricultural land, abundant water, and best of all, great opportunities for all sorts of outdoor activities!

    A: The West Shore is located in the southern end of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada, just 12 kilometers north of Victoria.

  4. Q: How many hotels/motels/inns does the West Shore have in total?
    A: The West Shore has 2 major hotels and a wide selection of Bed and Breakfasts. There are also numerous hotels, motels, inns and B & B’s in the nearby communities to choose from.

  5. Q: How is the West Shore organized?
    A: The West Shore is comprised of the cities of Colwood and Langford and the districts of Metchosin and the Highlands, all located to the west of Victoria. Each has it’s own municipal/city government infrastructure and are part of the CRD (Capital Regional District) Each of these governmental groups as well as public and private enterprise work alongside Tourism West Shore to shape the West Shore.

    A: Visitors to the West Shore mainly come from Europe, Asia, Oceana (South Pacific), and the rest of North America. In the past couple years there have been an increasing amount of travelers from China and South America.

  7. Q: What is the future of accommodations in the West Shore?
    A: The West Shore is growing in economic profile with a developing and strengthening tourism and sport-tourism industry, creating an attractive place to visit. This growth allows for adequate revenue to support existing properties and an ever growing interest from accommodations providers to place new properties in the region.

  8. Q: What is the impact of meeting and conventions in the West Shore?
    A: The West Shore has a growing meetings, conventions and sport-tourism clientele. We recently hosted the 2007 World BMX Championships to rave reviews. Many types of groups are attracted to the West Shore due to its unique location, world-class sport facilities and ability to support large influxes of people.

  13. Q: How do I get to and from the West Shore?
    A: Take a ferry, take a bus, take a plane or drive. Even though we’re on an island, we’re easy to get to! With Vancouver Island’s major highway intersecting our area, we’re an easy drive from major centres including Victoria, Nanaimo, Courtenay and points north. Daily direct flights into Victoria International Airport are available from countless destinations (we're less then a ½ hour flight from Vancouver), and we're served by three ferries.
